Amy’s Advice: Learning to Run

Updated: Oct 8, 2021

When I decided I wanted to start running I had no idea where to start. “Just go outside and run,” was all I thought I needed to do, but I got discouraged because I couldn’t run without stopping. Then I found the couch to 5K program, downloaded the app, and I was on my way to learning how to run. The program teaches you how to run by starting out slowly and incorporates walking/running intervals at your own speed.

Don’t want to download an app? No worries you can follow the program written out above. Don’t have a watch or timer for intervals? Don’t sweat it, just use the telephone poles along the roadside, walk from one pole to the next, then jog to the next pole after that and keep on alternating. Once you can run from pole to pole, increase to running two poles and walking one, and so forth.
