Keep up with Weight Loss on Vacation

It’s almost summertime in Crawfordsville, Indiana—what better time than now to start planning for that long-overdue summer vacation? Planning a vacation can be almost as fun as the actual trip, as you anticipate all the relaxing, shopping and dining out that you’ll do in new places. Don’t get too caught up in the idea of a real getaway that you forget to adhere to your medical weight loss program guidelines. Yes, vacation is supposed to be fun, but that doesn’t mean you should ditch all your hard work and weight loss efforts for a week of splurging only to return feeling more sluggish and tired.

You don’t want to be carrying a few extra pounds back home with you as a travel souvenir.

Follow some of these tips to enjoy a healthy yet fun vacation while maintaining your weight loss efforts:

Pack several reusable water bottles – Depending on where you travel, buying bottled water can really add up, but you’ll want to stay hydrated in the hot summer sun—especially if you’ll be at the beach. Having a few extra reusable water bottles along for the trip will help you remember to drink more water while saving you money. Plus, carrying around the bottle at all times will serve as a constant reminder to drink up and maybe even inspire other healthy choices.

Pack your OPTIFAST shakes and protein bars – Although vacation is the perfect way to escape your kitchen while someone else does all of the work, dining out for every meal can really put a stopper in your weight loss diet plan and lead to weight gain. Stay slim in your swimsuit and pack your OPTIFAST products for quick meals and healthy snacks. Your OPTIFAST products are formulated to provide you with high protein and low carbohydrates, so you can receive all of the nutrients necessary to promote weight loss on the go.

Pack your exercise clothing – Thinking about working out while on vacation may seem like a chore, but that doesn’t have to be the case. Pack your exercise clothing in your suitcase and hit the beach for a morning walk or jog to sneak some exercise into your travel plans. If you’re staying in nice resort or hotel with an on-site gym, use this amenity to your advantage—some hotel gyms are state-of-the-art and have fun machines you may have never seen before. Some even have hot saunas or steam rooms if you’re looking for more of a relaxing way to burn off calories (but don’t stay in there all day).

Pack health and fitness magazines – Vacation is a time for relaxing, but do so with constant reminders of good health. Bring along several health and fitness magazines to read as you relax on the beach or sunbathe by the pool. Even though you aren’t moving, reading healthy articles will help keep your mind focused on your weight loss efforts and inspire you to make healthier decisions as you travel.

Unwind, relax and enjoy your time off from the hustle and bustle of the busy world, but don’t drift too far away and forget to stick your weight loss goals. Pack some of these items in your bags before you leave town to inspire healthy decision making even while you’re away from home.
