Wasting Time

I have to be honest with you all, I’ve been struggling lately. I could give you a long list of reasons as to why I’ve missed workouts, not tracked my meals, or not made the best food choices. In fact I was actually getting ready to text my coach to tell him my list of reasons (or rather excuses) and ask him for advice when I saw this little message from him.

“Nobody is too busy, it’s just a matter of priorities. What are you allowing yourself to believe you don’t have time for? What or who do you need to stop wasting time on?”

Then came the inner dialogue…

Me: What are you doing other than making a bunch of excuses and wasting time? You feel your best when you’re working out, tracking your meals, and eating foods that are good for you. Not only do you feel better, you are better. A better mom, wife, co-worker, friend, athlete and person.

Other Me: I want what I want when I want it right now and I don’t want to have to report to anyone or be accountable!

Me: You signed up for these races, you made these goals, you have these plans, and you hired a coach.

Other Me: But I don’t want to do all the work, it’s too hard!

Me: Then quit.

Other Me: But I want to be successful.

Me: Then get off your butt and keep going.

Other Me: But it’s too hard!

Me: Then quit.

Other Me: But I want to be successful.

Me: Then keep going.

And round and round and round I go… Until finally I got off my butt and stopped wasting time. Yes I still want what I want when I want it. I’m still impatient. I still struggle. I still want to rebel against my own plans. But now I can stop wasting time on this argument.

So what do you waste your time on? Do you have a long list of excuses? Do you waste time by simply rebelling against yourself like I do? Do you even realize you’re wasting time?

Remember you’re not alone. But let’s stop wasting time and get off our butts.
